Michael Garriga, professor of English, holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Mississippi, a Master of Arts from the University of Louisville and a doctorate from Florida State University, where he served as editor of The Southeast Review. He is also the co-founder and editor of Fiction Southeast, an online journal dedicated to short fiction. Along with Dr. Sharon Kubasak, he serves as faculty advisor for BW's student-run literary journal, The Mill. His own works have been published in Esquire, Southern Review, New Letters, Oxford American and elsewhere. Most recently, a story from his published collection, "The Book of Duels" (Milkweed Edition 2014), was selected for inclusion in The Best Small Fictions anthology. He was awarded a 2016 Creative Workforce Fellowship from the Community Partnership for the Arts and Culture. Outside of teaching fiction and nonfiction, his main interests include Southern literature, noir crime stories and issues of men's studies in contemporary American literature.
